Sugar Donuts

1/2 sachet instant yeast (Saf Instant)
15ml warm water
100 ml warm milk
43g sugar
1/4 tsp salt
20g shortening
1/2 egg (or 1 small egg)

1 1/2 cups flour

Add instant yeast to the warm water, sugar and milk into your mixing bowl, stir and wait for it to froth for about 5 minutes. Add egg, shortening & salt and flour and continue kneading on medium speed for 5 minutes until the dough stops sticking to the bowl.

Oil the sides of the mixing bowl and let the dough rise for an hour or doubled its original size.
Roll out the dough on floured surface about 1/2 inch thick and cut into circles. Cut another smaller circles in the middle. Place on floured parchment paper.
Don't throw away the centre!!! Mix it back in with the balance dough for more donuts!

Let donuts rest for about 10 minutes while you heat your oil. Fry each donut until golden and roll in sugar. Yield about 10 donuts.

Stroopwafel (waffles biscuits)

This works best only if you have a pizelle iron. I used the normal waffle maker so my stroopwafel was thicker. More like the Belgian waffles you buy from the outdoor carts .. Ha ha

Anyway it still turned out great and the kids loved it!

Waffle batter

1/4 cup warm water
1/2 packet dried instant yeast
A pinch of sugar

Mix the warm water to the yeast with a pinch of sugar. Set aside for 5 minutes

2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
1 egg
1/4 tsp cinnamon powder

Mix all the ingredients together and set aside for an hour to rise. Cover with cling wrap.

Syrup filling

3/4 brown sugar
3 tablespoon corn syrup
1/4 cup butter
1/2 tsp cinnamon powder

Stir over low heat until mixture is thick and sticky.

Preheat waffle iron. Divide the dough into 30g balls or bigger if you want. Press onto the centre of the waffle iron. Once the waffles are golden, slice in the middle and spread with the filling like a sandwich.  Set aside to cool.

Fool Proof Waffle Recipe!

The boys have been crazy over waffles after I finally found my waffle maker! 2 days of waffles is more than I can bear!!

Blitz everything in a blender and let it rest for about 15 minutes.

3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup corn flour
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 egg
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla essence
1/3 cup oil

Heat your waffle maker and pour the batter in, close the top and cook about 2 minutes or until golden brown. I managed  to pour 3 times so about 6 waffles per recipe.

Serve with maple syrup and whipped cream.
